ICLEI Europe – Local Governments for Sustainability
ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability is a association of Local Governments dedicated to sustainable development with a worldwide presence. ICLEI represents a "movement" of Local Governments that work together in networks for performance, supported by ambitious campaigns, programs and projects to achieve tangible improvements in global sustainability with a particular focus on environmental conditions.ICLEI serves as an effective agency demonstrating creativity and excellence in developing innovative solutions to assist Local Governments on their way to local sustainability.
ICLEI has more than 180 European members, all served by the ICLEI European Secretariat. The Secretariat co-ordinates all of ICLEI's European activities, including this website. It is situated and generously hosted by our member city Freiburg, Germany, since 1992.
ICLEI was member of the Managing Urban Europe-25 project steering group.
In CHAMP, ICLEI is responsible for developing the Capacity Development Package, capacity building in Germany, development of the EU 27 network structure and for promotion of experiences and support in Western Europe.
